Offsets

To offset a line is to duplicate a line or a line's curvature a specific and continuous distance. Offsetting is a skill that will help us draw

Objectives:

Practice offsetting lines

Build confidence in marking the page

Build accuracy and dexterity

Steps

  • Mark your page with:

      • 1 straight line

      • 1 diagonal line

      • 1 angle (two lines meeting at a vertex)

      • 1 s-curve

      • 3 curves/lines of your choosing

  • Your page should look something like this

  • Place your pen tip about 1/4" below one end of each marking

  • Make an offset line in one fluid motion, mirroring the line/curve as you draw.

      • Try to maintain a constant distance between your pen and the marking

      • Don't forget to ghost before you commit to your line

  • Make at least 3 offset lines for each marking on your page

Take 2-3 minutes to create your offsets. If you finish early, make more offsets of your lines until your page is full.
