Tracing Trails

Objectives:

Practice making marks in a fluid motion

Practice drawing with the whole arm

Build Confidence in marking paper

Build Accuracy

Steps

  • Draw 4 horizontal lines on your paper. Make the first line about 2" and increase the length of each line by 1/2" to 1" so you have four lines of increasing length

  • Fill the rest of your page with curves, S-curves, and at least one spiral

  • Your sheet should look something like this

  • Place the tip of your pen at one end of the first line

      • If you are right handed, place your pen tip on the left end

      • If you are left handed, place your pen tip on the right end

  • Ghost over the line or curve multiple times until you feel confident enough to make a mark

  • Draw over (trace) the line in one fluid motion. Do this 8 times over the same line.

  • Draw over each marking you have on the paper 8 times. Continue until all marks have been traced.
