Hello Class, We are going to have a lot of fun this week! First, we are going to create a final drawing of twelve water droplets, which are due on Thursday. Next, we will learn how to shade in metallic and glass shapes. We will spend a lot of time drawing reflections. This week's homework is to draw a holiday gnome. The homework is due on Friday for ten points.

Hello Class, we will practicing transparencies this week. First, we will make a practice drawing with six shapes that is due on Tuesday. Then, we will make a final drawing with 12 shapes that overlap and have at least one area with four overlapping shapes. Make sure to blend to the outlines. Your final transparency drawing is due on Friday for 50 points. Your homework is to draw a holiday llama and color it. The homework is due Friday for ten points.

November 17th, 2025

Hello Class, we are going to learn about Renaissance and Medieval art this week, and we will learn how to tell the difference. Then, we will learn how to use value to make shapes appear three dimensional. You will receive your own drawing supplies this week, so make sure to keep them in a safe place. This week's homework is to read about the artist Leonardo da Vinci and to complete the handout. It is due Friday for ten points.

November 10th, 2025

Hello Class, we are going to be making Japanese Notans this week. Notans have equal amounts of positive shapes and negative spaces. Your Notan will be cut out of a black square and will need to have at last 12 cut outs. Your Notan is due next Monday for 50 points. The homework is to study for the Shape Quiz, which will be on Friday. Study your notes and handouts from last week.

November 3rd, 2025

Hello Class, we are going to finish our cross contour drawings this week. They are due on Tuesday. We will then learn about the element of shape and learn about positive and negative space. Then, we will complete a Japanese notan design. This week's homework is to make a cross contour drawing of three fruit. It is due on Friday for ten points.

October 27th, 2025

Hello Class, We will begin our final cross contour drawing this week. It will be worth 100 points. We will design a drawing that uses at least 15 guidelines with cross contour lines and a theme that fits. The drawing will be due next week. This week's homework is to draw a sugar skull with your own face for Dia de los Muertos. It is due on Friday for 10 points.

October 20th, 2025

Hello Class, We will be finishing our personal mandalas this week. They are due on Wednesday. Once you have finished, you can work on the Mandala Self Evaluation that is due on Friday for homework. Later in the week, we will learn about cross contour drawing and practice drawing apples with a cross contour line.

Hello Class, We are going to be drawing a personal mandala this week that uses contour drawing. We will be drawing our initials using contour drawing, and then we will decorate the mandalas with meaningful symbols. The mandalas will be due next week for 100 points. This week's homework is to draw a pumpkin in colored pencil, using the posted video as your guide. The homework is due on Friday.

October 6th, 2025

Hello Class, we will learn about gesture and contour drawing this week. We will have some fun making gesture drawings of our classmates and of different objects. Later in the week, we will create detailed contour drawings of our hands and other objects. Make sure that your Crazy Hair Zentangle drawing is turned in on Monday. This week's homework is to draw a detailed contour drawing of your shoe. It is due on Friday, October 10th for ten points.

Hello Class, We will work on our Zentangle Crazy Hair drawings this week. I hope that you enjoy drawing them! Make sure that you include a minimum of 15 guidelines in your drawings and a 50/50 ratio of black to white areas for contrast. Use your imagination for this drawing! Your zentangle is due next Monday, October 6th for 50 points. Early finishers can do the Inktober drawings for extra credit. There is no homework this week, so enjoy!

Hello Class, We are going to draw Zentangles this week! Zentangles are a type of line drawing that uses contrasting shades and creates a feeling of relaxation. We will start with some practice drawings and then end with a Crazy Hair Zentangle drawing that will be due next week. There is no homework because of the Jewish Holidays, so enjoy!

Hello Class, I hope you are having fun creating your Upside Down Man drawings. They are due Monday, September 15th for 25 points. Please make sure they are colored, framed, and turned into both your Google Classroom and the bin. We are going to learn about the element of line this week. There are many different kinds of lines, and they can be used to show different emotions. Your homework is to use different lines to fill in the toadstools on the Tangly Toadstools homework that is due on Friday for ten points.

Hello Class, We are going to draw using the right side of our brain this week. We will learn how to see and draw according to that. This will help you when you start drawing more complicated things. First, we will draw the Vase/Face and Monster/Face illusions, and then we will draw an Upside Down Man and turn it into our own piece of artwork. Your Upside Down Man is due next week. Your homework is to illustrate a song title and is due this Friday for ten points.

We are going to finish and turn in the portfolios on Tuesday, and we will begin the drawing unit on Wednesday. We will talk about intuitive drawing, or Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain. Welcome to Beginning Art! I am very excited to get to know you and to start this school year! Please make sure you have read through the Parent Letter and materials list with your parent and that you have filled out the Getting to Know You handout.

We will be doing some icebreakers and getting to know you activities during the first week of school. We will also review the Parent Letter, materials needed, and class expectations. The suggested materials for art can be found on the first page of this website. Some supplies are for you to gather from home, while others will be given to you in an art kit. You are expected to bring your art kit and materials to school each day or keep them in your class locker.
