Gmail is browser-based and is best accessed through Google Chrome, but you can create a shortcut on your dock or taskbar to open it in a new window each time the icon is clicked.

You can find spam by clicking on More on the left-hand side of your Gmail screen. Once you can see the spam folder, you can drag it up above the Less line so that it shows by default on the left.

You can create filters to replicate your Outlook rules. If you want to move a message into a specific label when received, ensure you choose the Skip Inbox action, as well as the label you wish to apply.
You can enter search keywords into the Search box to easily find messages that were received between two dates e.g. to find all messages received in December 2018, you can type after: 01/12/2018 before: 31/12/2018
When you set your signature in Gmail, it's important to tick the box to insert the signature before quoted text, to ensure your signature shows directly under your message text, and not below any replies or forwarded content.

By default, when you click on a message in Gmail, it will open in the same windows as your Inbox.
If you hold Shift while you click on a message, it will open in a new window. You can also hold Ctrl to open the message in a new browser tab.
If you are using Google Chrome to access Google Calendar, you can receive notifications for events coming up in your calendar. If you set desktop notifications, you can open the appointment directly from the notification, or snooze it.

If you have the preview pane displayed on screen, there will be a 3 second delay between clicking on the message and it showing as unread in your Inbox. You can reduce this by clicking on the Settings cog, choosing See All Settings and changing the Preview Pane: Mark a conversation as read setting.
You can use Inbox Styles to show all unread messages together in your Inbox. Click on the Settings cog, then choose Unread first under Inbox Type. Unread messages will show in their own section on screen, which can be expanded or collapsed as required.
You can transfer your Google Chrome bookmarks from one profile to another to make them available in your new profile. You will first need to export your bookmarks from your old profile, then import them into your new profile.

You can forward an email as an attachment by right-clicking on the email in the Inbox and choosing the Forward as attachment command. You can also drag an email message from the Inbox into a message you are currently composing, to attach the message into message you are working on.
If you don't need to act on a message immediately, you can hide it from your Inbox until a specific date and time. Select the message, then click on the Snooze button along the top of the screen, and choose the date and time you wish to snooze the message until. It will appear in your Snoozed folder until this time.
If you receive an email about an event e.g. a booking confirmation, Gmail will create a calendar event for you automatically. You can stop this by going into the Settings cog in your calendar, clicking on Event settings, then turning off the option to Show events automatically created by Gmail in my calendar.
You can press Ctrl Tab to move to the next tab in the browser, or Shift Ctrl Tab to move to the previous tab. On a Mac, press Command, Option and the right or left arrow to move to the next or previous tab.
You can also press Ctrl/Cmd and the 1-9 number keys to open a specific tab in your browser.

If you often use a specific tab in Google Chrome, such as Gmail, you can pin this tab so that it displays at the start of your tabs at all times. Right-click over the tab, and choose Pin a tab from the menu.
All pinned tabs appear from left to right in the order in which you pinned them.
If you have a number of tabs open, you can list them using the drop-down arrow near the top-right corner of the Chrome screen.
If you close a tab by mistake, you can quickly reopen it by pressing Ctrl Shift T. You can also right-click over the title bar and choose the Reopen closed tab command.
