As well as receiving notifications for email messages, you can also receive notifications for events coming up in your Google Calendar.
There are two types of alerts that can be set in your calendar:
Desktop notifications appear outside of the web browser in Windows or on a Mac. Your calendar will need to be open in order for the notification to show, but it won't need to be active on screen. You can click on the notification to open your calendar, or click on More to snooze the notification.
Alerts appear within your web browser and will only be visible if you have the calendar open and currently showing on your screen. You cannot open or snooze the event from this alert.
To set notifications to show for calendar events:
Click on the Settings cog near the top-right corner of the screen
Choose Settings
Click on Notification Settings on the left-hand side of the screen
Click on the Notifications drop-down and choose how you wish to receive notifications - this can be set to Desktop Notifications or Alerts
Choose to play sounds for notifications if required
Choose to be notified only for appointments you have accepted
Click on the Back button in the top-left corner of the screen to return to the calendar
If you have enabled desktop notifications in your calendar but they are not showing, you may need to check your Chrome settings to ensure Google Calendar is allowed to send notifications.
Click on the ellipses in the top-right corner of the Google Chrome screen
Choose Settings
Click on Privacy and security on the left-hand side of the screen
Click on Site settings in the middle of the screen
Under Permissions, click on Notifications
You'll see a list of sites that are allowed to send notifications - calendar.google.com should be listed here.
If not, click on the Add button next to Allowed to send notifications and add calendar.google.com to the list.
Close the settings tab when complete.
