Student Policies and Services
How many books can we check out?
Kindergarten: 1 book per cycle
1st grade-5th grade: 2 books per cycle; 3 books per cycle for 4th and 5th grade BRS Dewey Decimators
6th-8th grade: 3 books at a time
Note: Special allowances can be made if students need additional books for a class assignment.
When are books due?
AES and BRS: Books are due on students' library day
LMS: Two weeks from checkout date
What if I lose my books?
If a student forgets their books, they are welcome to look at books during their check-out time but they may not check out more until their other books are returned.
Library staff will provide verbal reminders to return materials. We distribute overdue notices periodically throughout the year.
Students can check their Destiny account at any time to view checkouts.
We understand that accidents can happen, so we don't charge any late fines. However, if library materials are ultimately lost or damaged beyond repair, patrons are responsible for either paying the replacement cost or supplying a new copy.
What happens in library class?
Every Kindergarten through 5th grade student visits the library once per cycle as a specials class and receives a report card grade.
All lessons, activities, and resources used in the Lumberton Township School District Libraries are aligned with NJSLS and AASL standards.
Middle school students may visit the library to check out books with permission from a staff member.
What are the library expectations?
Students must adhere to our set of library expectations, which are aligned with the district's STAR principles. These principles guide our behavior and interactions within the library space.
In the event that a student does not follow expections, our protocol involves a progressive approach:
Warning: The student will receive a verbal warning, reminding them of the expected behavior.
Time off of centers: If the behavior persists, the student will be given a break from participating in library centers or activities.
Parent/guardian contact: If the behavior continues despite previous interventions, we will contact the student's parent or guardian to discuss the situation and collaborate on a resolution.
