Absolutely! Patrons can renew books for as many weeks as they need, as long as no one else has requested them. If someone is waiting for the book, you may only renew it one time before it must be returned. To renew a book, bring it to the library and ask a staff member for assistance.
Library staff will provide verbal reminders to return materials, and overdue notices will be distributed periodically throughout the year. If library materials are lost or damaged beyond repair, patrons are responsible for either paying the replacement cost or providing a new copy. Fines will be issued through Genesis. The library accepts both payments and replacements for lost items. If you pay for a lost item and it is later found, the library staff will gladly refund your money, provided the item has not already been replaced.
Replacement books (preferred): Replacement books do not need to be brand new but should be in good condition. For non-fiction titles, you may provide a more current version on the same topic if desired. Thriftbooks is a great website for used books.
Cash or check: Payments or replacement books should be sent to the main office in an envelope labeled with your child’s name, grade level, and "Library Book Replacement Fee." Checks should be made payable to Lumberton Township School District.
Notes:
Per district policy, report cards will not be viewable until fines are paid or the book is replaced.
Students will not be able to check out new books until lost items are returned, paid for, or replaced.
How can I see which books I have checked out?
Students can access their library accounts at any time using Destiny. Log in with district Google account.
Every Kindergarten through 3rd grade student visits the library once per cycle as part of their specials class and receives a report card grade. Students in 4th through 8th grade may visit the library to check out books with staff permission and supervision. Teachers can collaborate with the school library media specialist for research projects, book talks, and more. All lessons, activities, and resources in the Lumberton Township School District Libraries are aligned with NJSLS and AASL standards.
Students must follow the library expectations, which are aligned with the district's STAR principles. Our progressive approach to managing behavior includes:
Warning: Verbal reminder of expected behavior.
Take a break: Temporarily sit out from library activities in to calm down and refocus.
Parent/guardian contact: If behavior persists, the student's parent/guardian will be contacted to discuss and resolve the issue together.
Disciplinary write-up: If behavior continues after parent/guardian contact, students may receive a disciplinary write-up.
