Technology Applications
All students are required to complete Technology Applications in middle school unless they have completed a technology elective prior to the
2024-2025 school year. This course is a prerequisite to all other technology electives.
This project-based course incorporates the study of digital tools, devices, communication, and programming to empower students to apply current and emerging technologies in their careers, education, and beyond. Technology applications consist of five strands that prepare students including computational thinking; creativity and innovation; data literacy, management, and representation; digital citizenship; and practical technology concepts. Students build their knowledge of software applications and hardware focusing on keyboarding and use of applications and tools. Students also build their knowledge and use of technology systems, creating projects that integrate the use of multiple applications. Students collect, organize, manage, analyze, and publish various types of data for an audience. Students practice the ethical and effective application of technology and the impact of a digital footprint to become safe, productive, and respectful digital citizens. Students explore the core concepts of computational thinking and the basic fundamentals of computer science through innovative design processes, algorithms, pseudocode, and both block and text-based coding including variables, conditionals, and iteration.
Fine Arts
Lake Travis ISD offers a robust selection of fine arts courses throughout middle school. Extensive programming is available in Art, Band, Choir, Dance, Orchestra, and Theatre. All 6th-grade students are required to take one year of a state-required fine arts course (Art, Band, Choir, Orchestra, or Theatre). In order to be eligible to enroll in a second Fine Arts elective in an academic year, a student must be enrolled in Band, Orchestra, or Choir as their first Fine Arts elective.
Electives
Each year students have a choice of various electives they may take. These electives include courses in fine arts, technology applications, digital media, gifted & talented, engineering, computer science, yearbook production, video broadcasting and production, teen leadership, and more. It is critical that students make thoughtful decisions when choosing electives as once the master schedule is developed, schedule changes will not be permitted.
