Do you have questions about SAT, ACT, and other preparation programs? It is important for students and parents to know what is available. More critically, it is important to know that there is no research that shows any substantial change in test scores from the effects of such “prep” programs. Strong academic preparation is the best foundation for these tests. However, some students do benefit from additional support as they take the big step to standardized tests. This includes not only national research, but local research as well. Purchasing an ACT or SAT prep book at a local bookstore can provide as much help as direct classroom instruction if a student is self directed, dedicated, and willing to devote the time needed to study and prepare for major tests. Students who are not committed to studying on their own would do better in a structured class setting. Computer programs are also available at a variety of prices.
