Immigration project

A) Brief presentation of the project:

Who? We are 4 students of the innovative international pilot school (LP2I): Bertille Tromas, Celestine Berry, Vadim Réveillère and Lucia Senovilla-Lesrel.

What? We organized art workshops with young migrants.

Where? At the M3Q (maison des 3 quartiers) in Poitiers

Subject? Around the future aspirations of young migrants.

Context, dates? Wednesday 20 November 2019 was the 30th anniversary of the International Convention on the Rights of the Child, we held the second workshop that day. Wednesday 18 December 2019 is International Migrants Day.

B) Steps :

We had difficulty defining a topic within the following constraints:

A non-traumatic subject, without evoking memories but interesting and testifying for them and us.

Not too technical in art but with a nice visual rendering.

C) R.E.M.I.V. (resources for foreign unaccompanied minors in Vienne)

For these three workshops, we were hosted by the REMIV pole (foreign unaccompanied minors are young migrants who have come to France alone) of the M3Q, coordinated by Yasmina Brunet. This pole is open every day, young people can get information on their administrative situation (legal advice), attend educational activities, and benefit from a free snack. We invite you to go to their website for more information, link: https://m3q.centres-sociaux.fr/page-d-exemple/remiv/

        • Workshops: This experience touched us a lot.

"It was great to meet them and talk with them about their future, our future..."

-Vadim

"I liked the way they looked at it, for example, when one said he didn't want a child so he wouldn't put them through the same "ordeal" and the other said that being accompanied by your children gave you the strength to move forward, I was marked."

-Bertille

"I found the differences in culture and thought impressive. It was very enriching because it creates new positive social bonds. I enjoyed it very much."

-Célestine

"These workshops have brought me a lot, they are people who live in a difficult situation and strangely enough I felt full of energy and joy coming out of the workshops even though it had been a big week for us. Just for them, we have to stay positive."

-Lucia

Review of the aspirations of young migrants

The aspirations of young migrants are varied. We observed several types of aspirations: life aspirations (stability...); "crazy" dreams (to be a footballer); jobs (I want to be a doctor) and wishes for a family situation (I would like to have two children...).

We wondered whether the fact of being a young foreigner didn't allow us to have the same dreams as we young French people. Indeed, we thought that our dreams were more "ambitious" than theirs, which is logical given the precariousness of their situation. To conclude, the reasons for the influence of individual aspirations are mainly based around our culture (our country, our traditions), our personality (tastes, life choices), and our situation (migrant with legal limitations or child in a "stable" situation with access to school).

Thank you ;))
