For this project, we studied on the artist JR, who's participating to the exposition , and on his artworks.
Below this introduction, we're going to introduce the biography of JR, a committed artist, and his many artworks.
Born the 22th of February 1983 in Paris, of Jewish and Tunisian origin, JR has grown up in Pecq and has spend a lot of this at the markets. He studied at the high school Stanislas before begin his career in the street art.
His nickname is taken from the initials of his name Jean René.
He declares that his religion is the Zoroastrianism ironically for emphasize on his loyalty to multiculturalism.
Gradually, pictures of his artworks spread all over the world, that’s how he became known. During some expositions, he offers to the visitors their poster portrait with a giant photobooth.
He employs a dozen people and shares his time of work between a studio in Paris and an other in New York.
Kikito
Kikito is an transient artwork by JR. It was in Tecate on the Mexican side of the Mexico-US border and visible from the United States. This border was inaugurated on 8 September 2017. This artwork questions the presence and necessity of the border.
The Wrinkles of the City
This project focuses on age and the aging process, Los Angeles and more particularly Hollywood are the cradle of "celebrity", where beauty and glamour reign supreme, all of L.A.'s identity is based on the superficial notion that "beauty is only superficial"; here, plastic surgery is no longer a luxury but a way of life.
Women are heroes
He presents these women who live with death, who pass from laughter to blades, looking for what is common in their eyes, JR tries to get closer to what is universal: the human, this project makes it possible to travel the history of these women to give them back a place.
Face2Face
This work is part of the "face 2 face" project, set up to talk about the creation of the Israeli-Palestinian wall. JR took photographs of the two populations and then pasted huge posters of these portraits to highlight their similarities.
