Arthur Morin Cultural Connection Scholarship
The Arthur Morin Cultural Connection Scholarship honors the legacy of Arthur Morin, who was born in France, raised in the U.S., and spent part of his career in Puerto Rico and Spain. Fluent in French, Spanish, and English, Arthur was passionate about connecting people across cultures, founding the Valdosta Latino Association to bridge communities and actively engaging in local cultural groups.
This scholarship will be awarded to a high school senior who has completed at least three semesters of a foreign language by graduation and embodies Arthur’s spirit of cultural connection. Applicants should demonstrate an interest in other languages and cultures and a willingness to build meaningful relationships across diverse backgrounds, showcasing how they’ve embraced this mindset through their experiences, regardless of their personal background or career goals.

Brian Mainor Memorial Scholarship
The Brian Mainor Memorial Scholarship was established in 2022 to honor the late Mr. Mainor, a Hahira Elementary School teacher of 29 years. He is remembered for his kind demeanor and love for his students and his community. Character and merit will be considered in the judging process. Applicants must also have attended Hahira Elementary School. The scholarship recipients will be awarded a $500 check and must attend a university or technical college in the U.S. during the duration of the scholarship year.

Bright Start, Brighter Futures Scholarship
The Bright Start Brighter Futures Scholarship, established by Bright Start Preschool in honor of Mr. Bunnis Williams, a former guidance counselor at Lowndes High, aims to celebrate his enduring commitment to education.
Mr. Williams was a devoted advocate for higher education throughout his career, guiding students in exploring post-graduate opportunities. He often assisted them every step of the way—from arranging college tours to navigating financial aid—while encouraging young minds to consider all their options. His passion for higher education was matched by his dedication to preparing students for their future paths, whether that led to college, vocational school, the workforce, or military service. He believed it was essential for students to understand their next steps in life, and he was unwavering in his support for their journey.
In tribute to his legacy, the scholarship will award $1,000 each to two students: one pursuing vocational training and one planning to attend college.

The Carlton Jones Memorial Scholarship is an annual award given to a Lowndes High School senior. The recipient plans to pursue an education in a technical field (such as Engineering, Nursing, Construction, Electrical, Plumbing, Welding, or Agriscience). The inaugural Ken and Sandra Overman Spirit of a Viking Scholarship honors the heart behind the work — students who reflect the values of integrity, service, and school pride. Inspired by Ken and Sandra Overman’s commitment to Lowndes County Schools, this scholarship will be awarded to a student who embodies Viking spirit through citizenship, leadership, and compassion. Ken Overman has served Lowndes County Schools in a variety of roles, including paraprofessional, teacher, principal, and Assistant Superintendent, while Sandra Overman is known for the care, pride, and personal touch she brings to everything she does in support of the Viking community. The Mama Gale Thomas Eger Scholarship is a $500 award available to a graduating senior of Lowndes High School who has demonstrated a strong passion for theatre arts. This scholarship honors the legacy of “Mama” Gale Thomas Eger, the beloved former Lowndes High School drama teacher whose impact on students and the local theatre community was lasting and profound. Applicants must have been actively involved in theatre arts and plan to continue their involvement at the collegiate level. The SGMC Scholarship exists to alleviate some of the financial burden of higher education in order to help create a future for healthcare students in South Georgia.
