College Application Process

College Application Process

Step 1 – Research colleges for academic, financial and personality fit.  You can visit the college website. You can also find information on GaFutures

Step 2 - Apply to colleges online through the college website, GaFutures or acquire a paper application. If the college does not have an on-line application, a printable version is likely available on the website. Take special note of any deadlines imposed by the college, and plan ahead by two to four weeks (Step 2-6).

Important information for college applications:

Lowndes High School

1606 Norman Drive

Valdosta, Georgia 31601

Main Number: (229) 245-2260 FAX Number: (229) 245-2286

 CEEB School Code: 113-080

Step 3 – Personally have SAT/ACT scores sent electronically from the issuing agency to the school of your choice (SAT: www.collegeboard.com; ACT: www.act.org.  Colleges will not accept these scores from the high school.

Step 4 – If required by the college, request teacher recommendations four (4) weeks ahead of deadlines. Colleges prefer everything to come in together (or it will get lost) – therefore, include teacher recommendations with your transcript request packet. Each teacher recommendation needs to be in a sealed envelope with the teacher’s name signed on the back flap.

Step 5 – For counselor letters of recommendation, a high school resume needs to be completed and given directly to your counselor at least two weeks before the college’s deadline date

Step 6Request your high school transcript be sent to your college.

·         For Georgia colleges, you will do this ELECTRONICALLY through GAfutures. You must be logged in to your account. https://www.gafutures.org/

·         For out-of-state colleges, go to the LHS Website, click on Guidance & Transcript Requests, click on Transcript Requests and follow the directions for       “Current Students” and “Out of State Colleges and Universities”.  https://sites.google.com/lowndes.k12.ga.us/schoolcounselingdepartment/home

·         You will have to do this twice. The first time will be for admission purposes. You will also have to send a final transcript, with a graduation date, after graduation.

Step 7 – You will need to send a copy of your immunizations to the college you plan to attend. You can request a copy from your physician or visit the health department. The original immunization used for school enrollment may be available in your permanent record at LHS. You can request this from the guidance office.

Please direct any questions to your counselor.
