The PSAT (Preliminary SAT) will be given Wednesday morning, October 10, 2018 at Lowndes High School.

The PSAT measures critical reading, math problem-solving and writing skills; however, students will not have to recall facts from literature, history, or science or complete math formulas.

Sophomore Students:

The Georgia Department of Education provides for all sophomore students to take the exam with no fee.

Freshmen and Junior Students:

Any 9th or 11th grade student interested in this opportunity may register for the exam beginning August 24, 2018.

The deadline to register for the exam is Friday, September 21, 2018.

The exam fee for 9th and 11th grade students is $17.00. Fees can be paid in the Guidance Office or online through the LHS School Store. A $1.00 process fee will be added to online registration. If you register online, please bring your receipt to the Guidance Office to receive your study guide.

There are limited spots available for paid registrations. Registration will continue until September 21, 2018 or until all spots are taken.

LHS receives a predetermined number of exams, so registration may close earlier.

Eleventh grade students with exceptional scores on the PSAT will be considered by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation for prestigious designations and scholarships.

All 9th, 10th, and 11th grade students who wish to attend a four-year college or university are encouraged to take the PSAT in order to:

  • Get feedback about critical academic skills
  • Prepare for the SAT
  • Start getting ready for college
  • Enter scholarship competitions
