Outcome
The tutor will intentionally incorporate active listening and paraphrasing strategies into the tutoring session in order to help insure content understanding (for both tutor and tutee) and enhance the tutoring experience.
Talk Less
Talking less is the quickest way to begin listening more.
Active Listening
Active listening is about hearing the complete message someone is communicating. This means you must take into account not only the verbal ques someone is presenting, but also their non-verbal (body language) ques.
Clearly, listening is a skill that we can all benefit from improving. By becoming a better listener, you can improve your productivity, as well as your ability to influence, persuade and negotiate. It helps with avoiding conflict and misunderstandings.
Paraphrasing
Paraphrasing after a speaker has finished speaking will strongly help you to become a more active listener. If you listen to a speaker with the intention of paraphrasing the content of what they've said then you force your brain to play much closer attention to what the person is saying as opposed to preparing your own response ahead of time.
