Tutor Onboarding

This training will give you the baseline knowledge on how to become a successful tutor where you'll help transform students' into successful, independent learners. LCC's Tutoring Center is internationally certified by the CRLA which provides the foundation for the topics covered in this training.

What is the CRLA?

In order to become certified through CRLA all tutors must complete 10 hours of training, at least 5 of which must be tutor-trainer supervised, interactive, live, and in real time. In addition, those 10 hours must cover at least 10 level 1 training topics.

LCC peer tutors will do training in three ways. There is a two day training in September before fall quarter starts, face-to-face training throughout the quarter, and online training. All training is required. You will only be excused from training if you touch base with the Tutoring Center Program Coordinator before the scheduled training.

Once you complete this training, you will have covered the required CRLA topics. After 25 hours of tutoring and the 5 hours of synchronous training, you will be certified at Level 1 and receive a pay increase. In order to make sure that you receive all the necessary training, check off each topic as you complete them on your onboarding checklist.

This course covers a variety of the CRLA Level One recommended topics. There are assessments embedded within the modules that measure your learning outcomes from the information provided. Please take your time to understand and own the materials as much as possible as it will create a solid foundation for your future at the tutoring center!
