UNITY IN THE COMMUNITY

Giving kids a chance to shine since 1995.

Founded in 1995 and incorporated as a non-profit in 1997, After School Tutorial Educational Program (ASTEP) is an organization lead by volunteers from Long Branch and the surrounding community that seeks to help students succeed academically in order to move forward in life. Our mission is to encourage young people to push through challenges, overcome defeat and find meaningful ways to succeed in life.

Tutoring Offered by the Long Branch Public Library

The Long Branch Public Library has partnered with Tutor.com which provides a few different virtual tutoring services:

  • One-on-one live virtual tutoring (2-9pm)

  • Paper review/proofreading

  • Math problem help

  • Practice quizzes and other worksheets

Papers and math problems can be submitted for proofreading/solution help 24/7. The service has already launched, so library patrons can get help effective immediately.

The library has a contract with the company to provide their services to students for free, they just need the library card. All Long Branch students and school employees are entitled to a free library card, which they can request on our website (longbranchlib.org) or by emailing longbranchpubliclibrary@gmail.com.

When students request a tutoring session, they put in the subject (ex. Math) and topic (ex. Algebra), as well as their grade level. Tutor.com supports every grade level from Kindergarten to 12th, as well as college and adult-level learning.

The tutors are vetted by Tutor.com for (in their words) "expert-level subject knowledge and effective tutoring methodology", and also have to pass a background check.
