Kindergarten Intervention and Referral

KINDERGARTEN I&RS at Joseph M. Ferraina ECLC

In support of the Long Branch Public School’s Mission, “to meet or exceed the standards set forth by the State of New Jersey,” every school in the Long Branch Public School district is equipped with a multidisciplinary Intervention and Referral Service (I&RS) team that is designed to address the needs of students experiencing difficulties and support each school’s compliance with the NJ Department of Education’s intervention and referral service regulations (N.J.A.C. 6A:16-8).

Each school has an established, coordinated system where general (regular) education students are supported with services through the planning and delivery of intervention and referral services (I&RS). Such services are designed to:

· Assist students who are experiencing learning, behavior or health difficulties; and

· Assist staff who have difficulties in addressing students’ learning, behavior or health needs.

I&RS Team members work proactively to plan and implement a systematic process that provides interventions that address and are targeted to improve any identified student concerns. Team members procedurally respond to requests for assistance, investigate and gather information, problem solve and develop an intervention action plan that is monitored to determine effectiveness and student improvement.
