Adams Elementary will continue to use and implement the Positive Behavior Intervention and Support (PBIS) program. The purpose of PBIS is to educate, encourage, model, and reinforce positive behaviors. We cannot expect that all students will come to us knowing our behavioral expectations.
Our students come to us with many different experiences, cultures, and backgrounds. Our goal is to teach our students how to respect themselves, others, and their school environment each and every day.
The Adams staff will teach, model, and reinforce our behavior expectations throughout the building and in the common areas such as the playground, the cafeteria, the hallways, and the wellness room. It is important that we teach our students what type of behavior is expected while they are at school.
Additionally, the staff at Adams Elementary has developed a common set of rules for each teacher to use in their classroom. This is designed to reinforce positive behavioral expectations throughout the building. Each classroom teacher will teach, model, and reinforce behavior expectations for specific procedures and routines within their own classroom.
Owls' Schoolwide Behavior Expectations
Behavior Expectations are developed for the classroom and for common areas (e.g., playground, lunchroom, library, etc.). Our students are taught and expected to be safe, responsible, and respectful.
Staff members will model, expect, and enforce expectations by taking appropriate action when expectations are not being met. A common set of core beliefs and principles identified by staff members serve as the basis for all decisions regarding the treatment of discipline problems. First, staff members give a polite and precise request. Afterward, a second request is given using signal words. When the requests are ineffective, a preplanned consequence is used. The second request is then restated.
