The Plum Creek Elementary Library will strive to support the curriculum set forth by the State of Texas with enriching material that will assist in empowering students. Providing a wide range of instructional resources that will benefit all levels, by offering a diverse collection that will appeal to all, from all points of view to meet the needs of students and teachers.
The District will rely on professional staff including Library Media Specialists (LMS) to select and acquire resources that:
Enrich and support curriculum while taking into consideration the levels of the learners, as well as learners with multiple interests, abilities, and learning styles.
Represent all backgrounds, ethnic, cultural and their contributions to our society and national heritage.
Build a comprehensive collection that is appropriate without bias or personal interest to the school community.
Represent all viewpoints.
Allow the students to develop, with guidance, the ability to practice critical analysis of controversial issues.
Provide a range of information that will empower students to think critically and make intelligent judgments in their lives.
Stimulate growth for information and enjoyment of reading and an aesthetic appreciation.
The Plum Creek Elementary Library will consistently support the educational goals of Lockhart ISD as well curriculum set forth by the State of Texas. Library Media Specialists will ensure that resources:
Are relevant to students in today’s world
Are appropriate for all learners in age, ability level, learning style, and social and emotional development.
Meet and exceeds standards for artistic quality, literary style, authenticity, educational significance, factual content, physical format, presentation, readability, and technical quality
Reflect the interests, diversity, and needs of the students and faculty.
Motivate students to reflect on their own attitudes, to make informed judgments, to understand their rights, duties, and responsibilities as citizens participating in our society.
The Library Media Specialist will assess and evaluate information within the existing collection, the needs of the curriculum, survey materials and consult reputable tools for the selection of materials.
The school district and the Library Media Center subscribe in full to the principles set in the American Library Association’s Library Bill of Rights and Freedom to Read Statement, The National Council of Teachers of English’s Students’ Right to Read, American Film and Video Association’s Freedom to View Statement.
