Accessibility

Plum creek Elementary understands that all patrons should be provided equal access so that library policy, resources, and services meet the needs of its students, staff and community. Individuals with disabilities must be able to access the same information and services independently as individuals without disabilities.

Section 504 of the 1973 Rehabilitation Act was the first disability civil rights law to be enacted in the United States. It prohibits discrimination against people with disabilities in programs that receive federal financial assistance.

Library Services

Equal access to persons with disabilities will be ensured by, services such as extended checkout and online holds, late fines will not be charged, access to online catalog (OPAC), access online library resources, volunteer readers and technology assistance provided in the library, captioning and e reader assistance will also be provided.

Facilities

Plum Creek Library is an open space library. There are no columns or structural barriers in place. All shelves are spaced for wheelchair access. Signage is included in both languages prevalent in the school, English and Spanish.

Collections

Library materials must be accessible to all patrons including with disabilities. Materials must be available to individuals with disabilities in a variety of formats and with accommodations, as long as the modified formats and accommodations are “reasonable,” do not “fundamentally alter” the library’s services, and do not place an “undue burden” on the library. Examples of accommodations include assistive technology, auxiliary devices and physical assistance.

Assistive Technology

Plum Creek Library will provide patrons with a broad range of disabilities including; learning, mobility, sensory and developmental disabilities with access to assistive technology that will meet their needs upon request or as needed.
