K-2: limited, non-routine, teacher-directed, brief, and tied to specific
learning objectives.
Grades 3-4: limited and purposeful with clear objectives, generally within less than 30 minutes per school day.
Routine is built into the daily system (like a standing center); non-routine is occasional and tied to a specific objective.
K and 1 CANNOT use iPads for centers at this time.
Grade 2 CAN use Chromebooks in centers, in which students rotate through once a week for no more than 30 minutes per day.
Yes, with conditions. In grades 3 & 4, the policy allows supervised, teacher-directed access, and students can begin guided independent use. So a Chromebook can be part of a station or WIN block when the teacher has assigned a specific, purposeful task tied to a learning goal and is supervising the block. It is still not a free-choice center, and it should not live in the rotation every day just because it is available. Keep it inside the 3-4 daily guidance of typically less than 30 minutes, and be mindful that the same students are not on devices for back-to-back days.
No. Keyboard is a discrete skill, learning to type so students are fluent and ready for the online state assessments, not using a device to engage curricular content. That is what makes it an exception rather than part of the daily count.
No. K-4 student devices will not be sent home, even if there is a chance of a snow day.
No. Securly supervises allowed use, it does not expand what is allowed.
