Much of what we learn at school is curriculum based. Transferable skills are the strategies we've learned to use with a variety of different people in a range of different situations.

There is no 'teamwork' class - or 'collaboration' period. Instead, regular people engage in activities on a daily basis that require a certain set of skills in order to be successful. Employers call these soft skills. They're the characteristics of good workers that people want to be around and ultimately, companies want to hire. A couple of key examples are:

• Networking
• Time management
• Problem solving
• Good manners/etiquette
