Welcome to 1st grade!
Introduction:
Hello everyone!
My name is Dominique Masse. I am so excited to be your child's teacher this year and look forward to watching them grow as both children and learners. I have been in education for 4 years. This is my 2nd year at Shaker Lane. Last year, I was a long-term substitute teacher in grade 2. I am dual certified in both Early Childhood Education and Elementary Education. I have my B.A. in Elementary Education and Creative Writing and my M.Ed in Reading Instruction. I have a true passion for sharing knowledge and helping students gain a love for learning. There is SO much to learn out there and the most engaging and exciting ways to learn about them are through hands-on and authentic experiences. We will be doing a lot of that this year! Another strong belief I have is to build a community where ALL voices are heard and risks can be taken without feeling judged. Students emotional needs is a primary focus here. I love teaching all subjects but my highest passion lies in literacy (phonics, reading, writing). I can't wait to get your child's excitement on for learning this year!!!
About me:
I am originally from Wakefield, MA but now reside in Billerica, MA with my fiance (Matt) and our pup named Maddy. We recently adopted Maddy last summer. She is now 1 years old and is so much fun! I have been engaged since July of 2019 and getting married in July of 2022. We are so excited and have been enjoying the wedding planning process! When I'm not planning for my students or my wedding, I love taking walks and being outside, tennis, biking, doing puzzles, reading, and spending time catching up with my family and friends. I am also a HUGE traveler and have been to 9 states, 4 countries, and 2 islands. Matt is also a huge traveler and for the majority of these trips, we have gone together. To me, traveling is the most authentic learning experience you can get. I always find something cool and new to learn when I'm away, no matter the location: lots of music history in Tennessee and lots of culture on the islands, as well as in Europe! The farthest I've traveled (so far!) is Sydney, Australia in April of 2019. It was absolutely incredible! Our next trip is most likely our honeymoon: Hawaii and Northern California!
Communication:
I can't stress enough how important the home/school communication factor is within a child's education. I work very closely with families to make sure you are aware of any concerns on my end, or any happy celebrations as well! I don't wait: I contact you right away should something need to be communicated.
In turn, I hope the same for my families: that you will contact me if there are any concerns you may be having about your child in any way: social, emotional, or academic. I strive to fully listen and understand your concerns and then work TOGETHER to create a plan of success for your child. Your child's success if my #1 GOAL. Let's work together this year!!
