The onboarding process can be quite lengthy, and your program manager is here to support you every step of the way. This section will outline the important steps necessary to complete your onboarding process. Once this is done, you will then be able to start your training with Lipstick Angels and begin working in the hospital! Each hospital has its unique sets of requirements to gain hospital clearance, below are UCSF's requirements:
Step 1: Submit Application

You will want to register using either Chrome or Firefox from either a laptop or desktop. Please do not share this link.
If you receive a flag saying that all available spots are filled when you press submit after the first step of registration, please press the refresh button on your browser and you should see the next step of your onboarding. If not, let your program manager know ASAP.
Note that you will only use the above link to begin your registration, in the future, you will log in to complete your onboarding using this link instead: https://ucsfhealth.samaritan.com/ otherwise you could unintentionally restart your onboarding process.
Please let your program manager and volunteer services know when you’ve completed the Volunteer Agreement DocuSign so that you can gain approval and schedule your in person UCSF interview.
Step 2: Sign Agreements
Volunteers 18 & older must sign the electronic agreement forms.
Volunteers under 18 must have parent/guardian consent.
Step 3: Reference:
The registration includes a place for the name, title, and email for a reference.
Family members or friends are not acceptable references.
An email form will be sent to your reference.
Ensure your reference completes the online reference form.
Once your reference has completed the online form, you will receive an email notification.
Step 4: In-Person Orientation:
You must complete an interview with volunteer services before being approved for volunteering. Please discuss this further with volunteer services for more details.
Step 5: Finalize Application:
Your social security number and date of birth need to be updated in your profile in order to generate a UCSF employee ID number.
Once your profile is updated, a USERNAME and Temporary Password will be assigned to you.
Please allow 4 business days for processing.
Step 7: Complete on-line training classes:
You will receive an email instructing you to complete four (4) on-line classes via your Volunteer Dashboard through the UCSF online Learning Center. The four classes take four hours to complete, on average. You do not need to complete these all in one sitting.
All four classes must be completed to continue the volunteer onboarding process.

Step 8: Background Check:
A background check is required for all individuals (18 years and older) interested in becoming a volunteer at UCSF. You will receive an email from Certiphi Screening, Inc., UCSF’s background check provider, with details on how to submit your background check.
Step 9: Schedule Health Clearance:
You will receive an email with instructions on how to schedule an appointment with occupational health.
Complete the health screening form and take to appointment. Please also provide hard copies of your immunization records.
The following requirements can be found in the FAQ section of the volunteer website:
MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella): proof of 2 vaccinations or positive blood titer
Chicken Pox (Varicella): proof of 2 vaccinations or positive blood titer
TDAP: must have been administered after 2005 to include the booster for Pertussis and Whooping Cough
Flu vaccine: Required during flu season.
TB Requirements:
2 Negative TB tests
OR 1 Negative Quantiferon Blood Test
OR Negative chest x-ray report completed within the past year if you have a positive TB skin test result (please provide documentation of positive result).
Step 10: Badge Clearance:
Lastly, you will obtain your badge from UCSF Security, in order to begin your new journey as a volunteer at UCSF Medical.
