In 2010 our adventure began in Germany where we were welcomed by host faculty and students from The Technical Institute of Berlin. There we engaged in cultural exchange with our hosts as well as visiting numerous historical sites and museums. We also traveled to Potsdam to visit the site of the historic Potsdam Conference as well as Sans Souci, one of Peter the Great's residences.
From Berlin we traveled by train to Leeuwarden, Netherlands where we were greeted by colleagues and students from NLH Stenden University of Applied Sciences . Here we participated in the 15th Symposium for Peace, Justice and Human Rights. The theme was Global Sustainability. Students participated in a wide range of workshops. Scott ran a seminar on Environmental Justice with a focus on the impact of industrial fishing fleets on fishing villages in Africa. In addition to workshops students attended a guest lecture by a local sustainability coordinator and we toured a state of the art dairy that was part of a methane energy project.
Finally the group departed Leeuwarden for Amsterdam. Visits to the Ann Frank House as well as the Van Goghe Museum left a strong impact on our group as we began our long flights back to Oregon.
