Retrieval: being able to find facts
Memorizing: being able to remember facts
Understanding: being able to use facts
At LLA, we are concerned about students mastering and using knowledge and skills. In traditional systems of education, the focus is typically on the retrieval and memorization of facts. There are of course examples of teachers and programs that break from the traditional norm, and we celebrate those efforts. However, the overall structure of the traditional school system is concerned with compliance, retrieval, and memorization.
The Project-Based Learning model at LLA will spark curiosity and hold students accountable to apply the knowledge that they learn. It will also create humans with empathy and collaborative skills.
Students will be assessed according to their demonstration of skills and knowledge against the competencies aligned to standards.
Everything here is with support from PBLWORKS.
We are looking for partners in developing our project-based curriculum, pertaining to current and relevant challenges.
If you know anyone that may have knowledge of the above industries and even community members that are not in these areas, then we want to know about them.
The minimum commitment level is to inspire youth, be available for questions, and listen to the students' ideas. The teachers will work with you in the community and then design learning around your industry. Through this method of teaching and learning, the students of Liberty Launch Academy can be active participants in the community today!
