Dual Language Immersion One-Way

Dual Language Immersion Two-Way
A bilingual/biliteracy program model in which students identified as emergent bilingual students are integrated with students proficient in English and are served in both English and Spanish and are prepared to meet reclassification criteria in order to be successful in English-only instruction not earlier than six or later than seven years after the student enrolls in school.
Emergent bilingual students attain bilingualism and biliteracy to reach high levels of literacy and academic achievement in Spanish and English.
Liberty Hill ISD's Dual Language Immersion (DLI) Programs are for grades PK through 5th. Classroom instruction is taught in both Spanish and English according to the program model called 90/10. This means the program begins with 90% Spanish and 10% English instruction and ends in 5th grade with 50/50 instruction. Students must meet the eligibility requirements to participate. Non-emergent bilingual (Non-EB) or Opt-In students may not begin the two-way program after Kindergarten.
ANNOUNCEMENT:
DLI One-Way will be implemented and phased in starting with the 2025-2026 school year.
DLI Two-Way will be phased out starting with the remaining cohorts in the 2025-2026 school year.
Frequently Asked Questions:
If my child opted in as a non-Emergent Bilingual student at another Texas public school DL Two-Way Program, are they eligible to transfer into LHISD's DL Two-Way Program?
Following verification of program alignment and consistent participation, a transfer will be approved only if there is an available seat in the classroom, and with the approval of the District Bilingual/ESL Coordinator.
If my child has participated in a Spanish Immersion private program or daycare, can they take an evaluation for admission?
Unfortunately, we cannot accommodate that request.
Can my child re-enter the DL Two-Way program if they opted in as a non-Emergent Bilingual, left the district, and did not continue in a similar program?
Non-EB students who opted into the DL Two-Way program and later left Liberty Hill ISD are not eligible to re-enroll in the program if they did not continue participation in a Dual Language Two-Way program elsewhere. Please see the question and answer above for those who continued in a similar program.
For detailed information, please contact the Bilingual/ESL Coordinator.
