The TSI Assessment is the standard by which Texas public post-secondary institutions (2-year, 4-year, vocational, trade, etc.) evaluate a student’s readiness for college-level course work in the areas of reading, writing, and math. If a student does not meet the TSI benchmark scores, the college will assume a student is not ready to take on college-level coursework. In turn, the college will require the student to take developmental coursework to build knowledge and skills. This required developmental coursework costs money and prevents students from jumping right into courses that will apply toward the completion of a college degree. Our goal is to enable students to avoid this coursework by helping students earn those benchmark scores on the TSI.
Incoming college and dual credit students in Texas are required to take the TSI Assessment, unless they are already exempt, to determine readiness for college-level work.
You will need to take the TSI if you are enrolling in the following:
An ASU dual credit English or Math course
An ACC dual credit course
College courses as a freshman
You do NOT have to take the TSI to enroll in OnRamps Dual Enrollment courses.
Taking the TSI can save you money. By scoring high enough on this test, you may be able to bypass developmental courses when you start college.
Taking the TSI can save you time. By being able to bypass developmental courses, you can go right into courses that apply to your degree.
For prospective dual credit students, the TSI will allow you to take college-level courses.
Each student can take the test through LHISD for free.

2. Complete the Pre-Assessment
This pre-assessment is required by the state of Texas to be completed BEFORE a student can take the TSI. It also provides students with more information about the TSI as well as valuable practice.
* Students must create an account for the Practice APP if one has not already been created. Use your personal email address.
* After successfully logging in, select Texas Success Initiative 2.0 Pre-Assessment Activity (TSIA-2-PAA)
* Click on Begin Pre-Assessment Activity
* Choose Liberty Hill as the campus where you plan to take the TSIA2
* Forward (or print) your Certificate of Completion to the Counseling Office.
3. Sign up for the TSI above
The TSI is an untimed test, so you have as long as you need.
The average time to complete all sections of the test is 3-5 hours
The average time to complete the math section is 1 hour.
The average time to complete the ELAR section is 2 hours.
Portfolio Tab in your Skyward account
Accuplacer emails all students their score report upon completion of test
First of all, there is no "pass" or "fail". You either meet the benchmark score and can bypass developmental courses, or you don't meet benchmark score and are placed into Reading, Writing, and/or Math courses that match your skill level.
Students can retest at LHHS for free, but must provide documentation that they have completed test remediation/preparation.
Students can also retest at an ACC campus for a fee ($29 for full test or $10 per section).
The TSIA2 testing platform includes several built-in features often used for testing accommodations that are available to all students and do not require prior approval. As a college-readiness testing instrument, the TSIA2 falls under higher education accommodations law and rules. Therefore, students needing accommodations should take the TSI with the college/university where they are enrolling upon graduation.
