New Ideas Develop into Amazing Creations
1ST GRADE
Students will discover their multiple intelligences and identify their type of genius through self-reflection.
What are my strongest genius types?
Students will discover their genius type (multiple intelligence) after learning about Albert Einstein and gaining vocabulary related to unit content such as passions, gifts, and talents. The final phase of this project will include a self-simile creation that incorporates these personal characteristics.

2ND GRADE
Students will follow the engineering process to create an arcade game.
How did a 9 year old boy create an entire arcade out of cardboard boxes?
Students will get to know a real-life character named Caine who used leftover cardboard boxes and old toys to create an arcade full of games for friends to play. They will learn about the 6 simple machines, how each works, and which ones can be found within an arcade game. At the end of the unit, students will create their own arcade game and invite peers from their classrooms to play the games.

3RD GRADE
Students continue to use their detective skills to solve a curious mystery full of animal characters.
Who can be eliminated as a suspect to solve a mystery?
Students have worked through 10 of 20 mysterious scenes in The Eleventh Hour. They have uncovered a collection of hidden messages and decoded many scrambled sentences including several anagrams and deductive reasoning tasks. At the end of the unit students will create their own mystery box.

Students will plan and begin creating their very own Rube Goldberg machines.
How will we collaborate to make a machine that successfully completes its path?
Students will use knowledge gained from a study of Rube Goldberg and simple machines to build a creation that solves this problem:

What Simple Machines will be included?
5TH GRADE
Students will develop their societies and begin brainstorming characteristics of a civilization within.
What elements will be part of our society?
Students have developed the key components of two separate societies named: R & H Landia and Mount Landia. Each society voted on the economy, transportation type, agriculture, entertainment options, and shelter best fitting for the environment selected. Each civilization within a society will promote its flag and mission statement which is individually created, but connected to the larger society in some way.
