We had to postpone starting last week for some scheduling issues, but I plan on starting first thing on Monday!

At LCA, we're always thinking about how our lessons lead to human flourishing. For each lesson, we have Big Ideas and Essential Questions in mind.
When learning to read, it is extremely important to learn to comprehend what you are reading as well. First, having background knowledge on what you are reading is helpful when trying to increase reading comprehension skills. It also helps support other subjects, like math and science. This is the focus in CKLA knowledge.

We are moving forward through the beginning of unit 4, with Mrs. Burroughs taking charge of the teaching. Our classroom reader is titled "the job hunt" and follows a brother and sister to find the sister a summer job.

New spelling words are coming home Monday, and our tests are on Friday. Mrs. Burroughs is keeping us on schedule!

Not only is the foundation of reading on of the main requirements in society, but we are also beginning to incorporate more advanced writing skills as well.

When we come to school every day, it is important to learn the academic side of the world. However, creating good character is just as important - if not moreso.
What we're learning:

We will continue working through normal handouts, as well as use our "journals" to respond and reflect - as well as practice handwriting.
What we're doing:

Our classroom journal is a weekly quiz grade, as well as there being participation throughout the weeks. Please encourage your child to slow down and think critically if they are frustrated with their journal grade!

Good handwriting is crucial when becoming a part of society. Without legible handwriting, written communication becomes much more difficult. We also use handwriting to reflect on the current virtue, and think critically about recent experiences.

We are moving forward with more basic concepts, as well as heavy review on double-digit addition and other previous concepts. Mrs. Burroughs has taken over our math class as of April 22, so she will be leading the teaching for math

Normal homework will be going home on a pretty regular basis. Make sure to check those planners!

Knowing numerical values and being able to execute simple addition is one of the very first building blocks to knowing higher math. This, as well as knowing your left from right, are some of the basic building blocks to make your way in society - without needing a helping hand or calculator.

No homework other than make-up, but we will have a small grade near the end of the week.

Grammar is especially important in the future when it comes to students becoming professionally fluent. In fact, we have already covered that most "bosses" are (or should be) required to have good grammar.
