Success without EdTech?
Success without EdTech?
Amplifying what works with EdTech
While success achieved without heavy tech use reflects effective teaching, we should question 'is our definition of success is limited to external accountability measures'?
True success encompasses holistic pupil outcomes like creativity, self-expression, confidence, employability, mental well-being, and collaboration.
EdTech can be transformative in these areas.
Strategic technology integration builds upon existing strengths, expanding the scope of what our students can achieve.
It is not about replacing what works, but amplifying it!
Developing essential skills for the future
In today's world, digital literacy is as fundamental as reading and writing.
Equipping pupils with these skills is crucial for their future success.
Leaders from the East of England EdTech Hubs programme explain why they have prioritised EdTech investment priorities alongside other school improvements.
"I think it can be very easy to dismiss technology if you're already a successful practitioner, if you're teaching fantastic lessons, and getting brilliant results without the use of technology, it can be very easy to brush it to one side.
But I think if you do that, you're shortchanging the pupils in your care because you've got to prepare them for the world they'll face when they leave school.
I think it's about future skills and ensuring that those children are ready for the world they will face when they leave you and your institution "
Mark Vickers - The Royal Hospital School
We are all pedagogical gatekeepers
Opening and closing opportunities for children
'Teachers can often act as pedagogical gatekeepers in the use of technology.
If we think about using technology, which opportunities are we opening up for children and which opportunities do our choices mean are closed off to children?
Dr Fiona Aubrey-Smith ( PedTech Author) asks the question 'how do we know if technology is making a difference?' to teaching and learning?
'Twining and Maher (2017) have found that technology use was most often for a teacher's purpose rather than for children's benefit. That research encourages us to look really critically about the technologies that we use, about whether they are making life easier or more efficient or more productive for the school's processes, teachers and teaching, or whether the technology is making a positive impact on the nature of children's learning'
Personalising the learning journey
Every pupil is unique. Technology allows for personalised learning experiences, catering to different interests and paces, and providing individualised support where needed.
Unlocking new levels of engagement
Even the most engaging lessons can be enhanced with interactive simulations, virtual field trips, or collaborative projects using technology.
Expanding horizons beyond the classroom
Technology can connect your pupils with experts, resources, and opportunities around the globe, broadening their perspectives and inspiring new passions.
It's not about changing who you are as a school, but evolving and adapting to the changing world around you. By embracing technology strategically, you can build on your existing strengths and create even more enriching and compelling learning experiences for your pupils.
How do you envision technology amplifying your current successes and taking them to the next level?
What unique opportunities or experiences could technology unlock for your pupils that might not be possible otherwise?
How can technology help you personalise learning and cater to the diverse needs of all learners, ensuring that no one is left behind?
In what ways could technology empower your teachers to work more efficiently and effectively, freeing up their time to focus on what they do best – teaching?
How can you leverage technology to connect your pupils with the wider world, fostering global citizenship and preparing them for the future?
Making Informed decisions
Decisions, supported by accurate data and trusted partner insights, are key to technology's role in boosting school efficiency and impactful teaching. We have asked lead schools to share thier insight into how they make key decisions to further their vision
