Navigating the Research Landscape
Understanding the research landscape in EdTech is crucial for schools seeking to make informed decisions about technology integration, but it's a landscape that can often seem complex and challenging to navigate.
Why Ed tech Research can be complex
Rapid Evolution - Because technology changes so quickly, research studies can struggle to provide relevant insights, as the technology they examine may already be obsolete.
Contextual Factors - Because school contexts differ greatly, a "one-size-fits-all" approach will not be effective. A tailored Digital Strategy for each school is essential.
Methodological Difficulties - The dynamic complexity of classrooms, with many learning variables, makes it challenging to attribute outcomes to technology alone.
Focus of Research - Many EdTech studies, often company-funded, focus on tech features rather than broader impact. This can lead to biased results favouring their products, so schools should critically evaluate such research.
