Welcome to the the LGfL Shape Robotics Pilot Portal
Filmed at Samsung KX on the 11th March 2024, teachers and pupils presented their achievements and we also set a fresh challenge to code the Robot to recreate a mission to rescue items in a hazardous environment.
Pilot schools showcasing the impact of Shape Robotics hardware and software in their schools and across the curriculum and beyond.
Bob Usher from LGfL interviewed pupils from all the pilot schools at Samsung KX to showcase their achievements with the Fable Robots.

What did we find out through the pilot project?
'If I were to compare this to other products that I've used previously, this is a good step up.'
Beverly Maloney - Design and Technology teacher
Royal Hospital School
'Two of our teams decided to put some clothes on our robots, and you may ask why. Making the robot look more like a human then took them to the next level of coding because it was not just the robot that they were coding, it was a human being that they wanted to create'
Katarzyna Suliga Wasielewska - Computing Lead
St Joseph's RC Primary School - Islington
'This is absolutely endless with possibilities. The fact that it came with lots of little gadgets that we could plug into. The fact that it only had one arm and not two arms was quite interesting. It allowed me to think, well, not everyone in the world has two arms, and perhaps using one arm would inspire the pupils to think a little outside the box.'
Beverly Maloney - Design and Technology teacher
Royal Hospital School
'We've schools Fable Robots in math lessons, literacy, design technology, coding, and even language work. So lots of different applications in different subject areas. And that's really great because what the future holds is seeing robots in a real-world context. So we have been using robots to replace a human's job that would be too dangerous for a human to do. So the humans don't have a risk of maybe losing their life or getting seriously injured.'
Rob Widger - Shape Robotics
'Shape Robotics, it's much more than just coding, it allows you to explore their hands-on approach to learning which is something that children will not explore just by coding on Scratch. Even though we've been doing Junior Scratch from year one, then they're doing normal Scratch, and they're finishing with Python, but it's still just based on a computer. But Shape Robotics go one step further where they can actually take this code out of the computer, put it into something that can move, can interact with you, can be then linked with artificial intelligence'
Katarzyna Suliga Wasielewska - Computing Lead
St Joseph's RC Primary School - Islington
'Definitely have a play with them yourself first, but also look at the children who perhaps have more experience with coding themselves. Let them have a play. They will overcome some of the problems and then use them as 'robotic ambassadors'. What I did really was just ask one or two other children to come and join the group, and then eventually, they were training each other'
Emma Hardy - Year 6 and Computing Lead
Exning Primary School
Introducing the Pilot Project
LGfL and Shape Robotics are working in partnership from the Autumn 2023/ Summer Term 2004 to explore the application of the Fable Go and Explore Robots to real-world problem-solving.
Lead pilot schools are:
Harbinger Primary School - Tower Hamlets
Cheam Park Farm Primary Academy - LEO Academy Trust
Tufnell Park Primary School - Islington LA
Alderton Junior School / Epping Forest Schools Partnership Trust
