About this pilot - FAQ
1. Who could take part in the pilot?
Any LGfL school eg Primary / Secondary / SEND
2. What did a pilot school have to do in return for receiving the hardware/software?
A pilot school will not need to pay for the hardware/software but it did need to agree to provide feedback and help create impact case studies of how the hardware helped raise standards of achievement for defined and agreed parts of the curriculum and/ or extracurricular activities.
3. What were the timelines for the project?
· June / July - Initial Pilot meetings/presentations to identify and choose pilot schools
· Sept /October – Pilot schools to meet and establish focus of activity
· Nov - Jan 2024 - explore hardware/software in school
· Feb/ March - 2024 – Case Study Creation and Showcase event for pilot schools at Samsung KX
April 2024 - St Joseph's will be supported to become a centre of excellence in Robotics for the whole LGfL community
4. How were the pilot schools be decided?
The pilot was oversubscribed, with more schools applying to participate than could be accommodated.
Successful schools received a limited number Robots on the pilot phase provided short summary relating to:
Age range you would use the technology
Curriculum /Extra Curricular focus
Focus of real-world application of the Robot Technology
How you would measure the impact of the technology on raising standards for all learners
In particular, the pilot aimed to explore the application of the technology in a real-world context. For example, one pilot school has said wanted to build a robot that would mimic a search and rescue robot looking for survivors in the aftermath of an earthquake.
Successful applicants to the project had a real-world application as the focus; abstract non-real-world control-based applications are less likely to be successful such as making the robot dance or take part in a controlled game.
