Integrating iPad with other technologies
What other technologies do you use with the iPads?
'All of our teachers, despite having an iPad, still have a work PC or laptop in their classroom, which more often than not, the board runs from.
All of the teachers still benefit from having a PC or laptop as well. But there are other things that we use as well, along with our iPads which are really powerful. So as part of our coding work children use the Sphero, they use their iPad with it'
David Maguire, Headteacher Coupals Primary Academy - Haverhill
Do you use other devices alongside your iPad in school?
'Ultimately, for us, it comes down to choice. And there are times when the functionality of having a keyboard for the children and a bigger screen for browsing is more useful, and they might then choose to use the Chromebooks.'
Cassey Williams - Deputy Headteacher, Shacklewell Primary School - New Wave Federation
Do you use other devices alongside your iPad in school?
'For us, the most important issue for us is that every student has a device rather than a student who can have a go on this computer for this amount of time, on that computer for that part of the day. The benefits of having a device each outweigh perhaps the need of having a variety of different computing platforms though.'
Tim Lings, Director of Digital Learning- Heronsgate Primary School
What other technology platforms do you use or is it just iPad?
'But it's not that we just use Apple products; we've got Lego Robotics that we use, we've got different styluses that we can use with the children, and we actually use a range of different software as well. The students all have Microsoft accounts that they use to log into their Apple IDs. Showbie is our learning platform which helps us manage all that learning on the iPad. And the staff in the school use Google Drive as a way of managing all that cloud storage of documents. So we find that the Apple platform allows us to use a range of other services out there at the same time.'
