Literary Devices Writing Assignment:
Write 2-3 paragraphs explaining the literary devices that you identified in class on Wednesday. For your section, you’ll want to provide a few sentences of summary for your section to introduce where in the play your section takes place. Then you’ll need 1-2 paragraphs explaining the literary devices you identified. For example, if you identified a simile, you will need to explain that a simile is a comparison that uses like or as and explain what the two things being compared are. If you need to cite a line or two from the play, use appropriate citations by putting the text you’re citing in quotation marks and providing a citation at the end of the quote. A citation should follow this format (Act #. Scene #. Line #’s).
This assignment may be typed or handwritten. Either way, it needs to be double spaced. If you choose to hand-write the assignment, please write legibly.

Romeo & Juliet Paper
For your paper on Romeo & Juliet you’ll want to use the work that you’ve already done on one of the themes from Romeo and Juliet to present a 5 paragraph essay analyzing the use of that theme in the play. Your essay should be structured as follows:
Introduction: 1 paragraph (3-5 sentences) introducing the topic of your essay and the theme that you’ve chosen. There may be pertinent background information to the play, or to your theme that you need to include here.
3 Body Paragraphs: In these paragraphs you will explain, using quotes and evidence from the text, how the theme you've chosen is developed. Each paragraph should contain 5-7 sentences, including at least 1 quote from the text. In these paragraphs you’ll want to present the examples of the theme that you’ve chosen (you should already have these identified). You’ll want to include references to the theme from throughout the entire play (Acts I-IV). The bulk of this space should be given to explaining how the theme is explained in the quotes that you’ve chosen to include.
Conclusion: 1 paragraph (3-5 sentences) reiterating the topic that you’ve chosen and restating your explanation of the theme. This is not a place to introduce new information, this is a space to summarize everything that you’ve said previously in your paper.
Other Guidelines: This paper will need to be typed. In a standard font (like Times New Roman or Arial). 12 point Font. Please do not add extra space between paragraphs. Please indent at the beginning of a paragraph and provide correct citations for your quotes; ie (Act #.Scene #.Line #). Please observe appropriate grammatical rules.

Then, based on those references, I want you to make a claim about what the author is saying about good and evil. You should have one paragraph of examples of the elements of good and evil from each Part of the book, and then one summary paragraph at the end where you present your determined findings about what the author of Beowulf has to say about the relationship between “good” and “evil.”
