IB Examinations

Examination Policy (IBO)

The IB will publish the examination schedule approximately one year prior to the date of the examinations and will be made available to the public at that time. Please note that there are very few reasons for the IBO to approve a change in the examination schedule, and would need to be approved by no later than February 1 of the year of the testing session.

(From IB Rescheduling of IB Examinations Guide) Changing the time and/or date of an IB examination will not be authorized for any other circumstance. Therefore, rescheduling will not be authorized when an IB examination coincides with a local or national sporting event or competition, a school event of any kind, a local or national holiday, school examinations, or a family event. Exceptions will not be made. The three circumstances that the IBO will approve examination changes are as follows:

  1. Conflicts between IB examinations scheduled for the same time and date.

  2. Conflicts between the scheduling of IB examinations and the examinations of other awarding organizations, including university entrance examinations.

  3. Emergency situations.

Examination Policy (Lexington One/LHS)

The Lexington One IB Diploma Program will follow all guidance from IBO regarding assessment procedures and/or the conduct of examinations. In addition to the IBO assessment procedures the Lexington One policy regarding IB Examinations is as follows: Candidates taking IB Program examinations will be marked "Excused/On-Site Services" for the entire day of any scheduled examination. Therefore, if the candidate chooses, they may arrive at school at the time of the examination and/or leave at the time that the examination ends. Candidates are also welcome to use the IB Learning Lab or the LHS Learning Commons on the days of their examination if they are unable to arrive late/leave early or would like a place to study for their examinations. Prior to the examination period the IB Diploma Program Coordinator will publish an examination schedule for all candidates, and it is up to the student to alert any non-IB Program course/teacher of their expected absence. The candidates are responsible for any work missed during the time of examinations, and should work with that non-IB Program teacher to ensure its' completion.

If there are any questions/concerns regarding the examination schedule or Lexington One IB Diploma Program Examination Policy please contact the IB Diploma Program Coordinator Mr. Derek Allison (dallison@lexington1.net).
