Newspaper Club

Advisor: Ms. O'Meara / laura.omeara@leoniaschools.org

Newspaper club is where new, proficient, advanced, or expert writers can come and take on various article topics. Articles ranges from general news Leonia Middle School students and staff might be interested to opinionated pieces and petitions. Students are encouraged to interview peers, teachers or other community members, create independent narratives, and/or build polls for the student body to complete. There is no limit to the type of writing that can be included in the LMS Newspaper! 


Yearbook Club

Advisors: Ms. O'Meara and Mr. Kassan / laura.omeara@leoniaschools.org and michael.kassan@leoniaschools.org 

Yearbook Club is where students come to learn how to organize and build their own yearbook. Students are encouraged to take photos of their peers before or after school. Some students are offered the opportunity to take photos during lunch, especially during major events like Spirit Week.

Brief summary of club:   Are you looking for a safe environment to talk about pride? Come to LGBTQ+ and friends! Enjoy a safe space to talk, organize pride events, and eat cookies! We provide a safe environment for anyone scared to talk about their sexuality 

MathCounts

Brief summary of club:  Searching for a place to sharpen your math skills or just want to showcase your knowledge of arithmetic? MathCounts is the place for you! Work on problems, and get ready for tournaments with newfound friends! 

Knitting Club

Brief summary of club: Do you want to unwind with some fun arts and crafts? Give Knitting Club a try! Work on your projects with no interruptions! Don’t know how to knit? Ms. Scrivani will help you! We also have parties for special occasions, to celebrate with friends! 

 Girls Who Code

Brief summary of club    Women make up only 29% of the Stem workforce, while men dominate the other 81%. If you’d like to end this pattern and are interested in programming, join Girls Who Code! Program with different softwares, and work with others who share the same passions as you, and learn new and interesting techniques to besten your skills! 

MindMasters

Brief summary of club: Mindmasters is a relaxing place to meditate and talk about the things that are getting you stressed in school, and meet people that you can talk and bond with! We cover multiple topics that can help you overcome middle school’s many many anxiety-inducing situations  (and by many I mean a LOT).

Student Council

Brief summary of club: If you like taking charge, planning events, and school spirit, then I think you would love the Student Council! Team up with other members to get ideas for events, such as spirit weeks, fundraisers, and activities to bring the school together! Joining can help to boost  your leadership skills and help you feel good about yourself when you help the school! 

Literary magazine
