The Best Restaurant EVER

by Evan Kirby - Grade 5

You may have seen my last article, "5 Fun Things Nearby That You NEED to Visit"(Check out the Winter Newspaper). And in it, I recommended a Restaurant called "Cliffs Steakhouse". If you don't know what it is, Cliffs Steakhouse is a steakhouse in Englewood Cliffs, and it's one of the best restaurants I have ever eaten at. First of all, the options. On options, I'm not talking about food options, I'm talking about seating options. I have never seen a restaurant where I can sit on a balcony, and it have heating. It's perfectly inside, but it's still outside, and it's beautiful outside. But inside, there's the Bar, or usual seating. Even something as simple as the seating can really go into the overall restaurant. Another thing is the food, of course. You can't have a good restaurant without good food. And unfortunately, Cliffs Steakhouse doesn't have good food. They have GREAT food! With amazing pasta, calamari, octopus, Filet Mignons,  and deserts,(A basic summary of what we get every time) It's never gonna fail you, and even better, their food is consistent! Yes, whatever you get one time, will taste the same as another time. Another amazing thing is their service. For example, when I told them that I was recommending their restaurant in a newspaper, they gave me a free chocolate mousse! And of course, It was AMAZING! They also are very nice, and come around often to make sure that you're having a good experience. It's definitely a place to go. So, next time you don't know where to go and you want to have a fun night, go on down to Cliffs Steakhouse, it won't disappoint.

The School Lunch: Is it good or is it bad?

by Evan Kirby - Grade 5

School Lunch: Let's be honest, it's not the best, but how bad can it be? Here's my opinion on the best and worst foods, and overall if school lunch is a good lunch for you to be eating. The Best thing, in my opinion is the Spicy Black Bean Burger. Here are my reasons: It's one of the only things that has a good amount of heat, it's spicy, it's good, and it comes with fries. It just tastes good, but don't worry, I also like the Breakfast for lunch. And even better, they keep improving the school lunch. But, what's the worst thing? Well, I had this last year at ACS, so they might've changed it, but my least favorite thing is the italian sampler. 3 sad mozzarella sticks and green beans isn't a lunch, and after I had the mozzarella sticks, I started to not feel so good… Luckily, it went away, but it still is probably one of the worst things I have had at the School lunch. One really good thing though, is that it has all of the things on the MyPlate Food Groups Chart. For example, one school lunch, the French Toast Sticks had all of them: In the french toast sticks themselves, they had Wheat, and Eggs, Eggs are Protein and Wheat is Grains. Also, the Strawberry Compote held the Fruit Group, and the Potatoes for the Vegetable Food Group. But, there's one more: Dairy. If you decide to get Milk, then this is a perfect lunch. And there's more stuff too, such as the Taco Scoop-A-Bowl. But, the French Toast sticks have a whopping 17 grams of sugar, so it might not be the best choice. Overall, the school lunch also needs healthier options. For example, they have posters of fruits and vegetables in the cafeteria, but for the school lunch, they don't even provide those items. Overall, you can't win with the school lunches here at LMS. They do provide cheap and affordable lunches, but I feel like unless there's extra complications, it doesn't seem like a healthy, enjoyable lunch. When I surveyed some students in my class, 2 of them said that they enjoyed the school lunches, while 5 of them said it could be improved, and 1 said it was terrible and should be banned. Also,  they don't contain much fiber. In one lunch, it only has 2 grams of fiber, the chicken fries. This means it's not even filling. I think that the school lunch is more bad than it is good, but it has many great advantages, so I don't think it should be removed either. This is how I feel about the school lunch here at LMS.

New smart lockers for LMS

by Wesley Martinez - Grade 6

LMS is a very nice place to learn and collaborate. However the lockers in the 6th grade wing are rusting out and getting very old. Plus they are too small to fit all of our stuff. Ms Gurda’s lockers are already really big and built properly but all the lockers just need one adjustment. All the lockers would be as big as Ms Gurda’s but instead of Locks, student ID cards would unlock the doors and open the door a little so student can open the doors completely. Plus the 6th grade wing would also get their lockers built in the wall.

Long Island Baldwin sShool district is the 1st in the nation receive these lockers and they costed 900,000 dollars, and if we try, Leonia schools could be the 2nd in the nation to receive these special lockers. Plus if the school has enough money, all student ID cards could become Scanners to open doors in the bathrooms, the cafeteria and maybe for gym teachers the auditorium. The extra money if the school has it, would be very useful for the bathrooms so it would see if you’re in 6th grade and you try to use a 5th grade bathroom and you scan the card it wouldn’t open the door. The cafeteria doors could use the smart lock feature because the school goes crazy over the door trying to reach the handle and push through, especially the 5th graders.

If you use an ID card it would make students less likely to run so when one student scans the door it opens the door and students go slowly in the cafeteria not racing to the door handle. This is a very good idea for the school because it could use better lockers and it would represent a new era of  learning and modernization for LMS. Be sure to go to YouTube and watch the new lockers video on the Cbs 2 news new york channel. This is our moment to get a modern feature for our school and any room including bathrooms, the cafeteria and maybe the chorus room could get this smart lock feature. So don’t forget to tell me your opinion and watch the news video on this idea.

New electric school buses for the whole district of Leonia

by Wesley Martinez - Grade 6

Leonia is a town all about the environment around people and we are already making this an environmentally friendly town. The leonia school buses are getting replaced with propane powered school buses that are more electric but still have diesel. That’s only one step with more electricity. We currently use Blue-bird, Thomas, and IC bus. Blue bird makes environmentally friendly school buses that are 100% electric not a gallon of diesel.

The 3 electric blue bird bus models are the Vision electric, the all american RE electric and the micro bird G5 electric buses. You can check them out at blue-bird.com and see all they offer. And by 2026 we could be an outburst of electric school buses. This would not only help our air and trees it would also help our health. Breathing in smoke and diesel from school buses can make us sick which could lead to death.

Another brand of school buses that we could use is Thomas school buses. They have 1 electric school bus model which is the Saf T liner C2 liner. Maybe they Lion bus company’s  Lion C bus. All these buses are electric and have modern technology to make them Cleaner, Quieter and less disruptive. Plus all these buses will reduce air pollution in the air because all buses would all be electric. Research has shown that only 38 states use some of the 12,275 electric buses that the USA has. We should join all those towns and cities that use those electric buses to soon one day make the USA fully electric and stop climate change.

I hope you like the idea of making this town a healthy town by making less air pollution Be sure to check out the websites on all these buses and tell me your feedback and opinions.
