As we come to the end of our first half term, we are delighted with the way the children have settled into Year 6 and stepped up to the many roles on offer. We are never short of volunteers, which is such a lovely position to be in. This half term the children have particularly enjoyed our music unit, centred around the protest song 'Ain't Gonna Let Nobody', with enthusiastic singing, playing of drums and glockenspiels. We've learnt grid drawing in Art, become knowledgeable on censuses in History, focused on rights and responsibilities in PSHE and have tried our hand at using classification keys in Science. In English, we're just finishing off the masterful fantasy 'Tyger' by SF Said. We've also read the striking but sobering 'Can we save the tiger?' by Martin Jenkins: the springboard for our current writing outcome. In Maths, we've covered place value, operations (surviving the tricky topic of long division!) and are now tackling fractions. Our speaker from the Humanist Society generated an avalanche of questions and much food for thought. Undoubtedly, our highlight, however, was our STEAM day at Thorpe Park - no explanation required! We've all earned a restful half term and are looking forward to some relaxation.
With best wishes,
Ms MacFarlane and Mrs Povey
