It's hard to believe that we have finished our first half term in Year 3 already! It seems like we've been Juniors for a lot longer than that.
We have had a fun filled half term which began with reading the fantastic story of Puffin Peter. We greatly enjoyed this story and wrote Lost posters and diary entries to show our learning. We then followed the journey of a pebble from a volcano in the Stone Age to today through the story 'A Pebble in my Pocket'. We finished our English learning by reading 'The Stone Age Boy'. There was much excitement as we predicted what would happen in the story. We have written some setting descriptions using Olex.AI and found it fascinating to see how the AI interpreted our writing.

In Maths we have focused on addition and subtraction of three digit numbers using the column method. Our History lessons have focused on the prehistoric societies of the Stone Age, Bronze Age and Iron Age. We greatly enjoyed being Historians and deciding what we thought artefacts were used for. We also played 'Would you Survive?' to find out whether we'd survive in the Iron Age. In Science we have been looking at rocks, fossils and soils. We tested various rocks to see what their properties were - hardness, absorbency and reaction to acid rain.
We have also greatly enjoyed getting used to our new chromebooks and have found it exciting to be able to use them for research and learning. We have started working hard on our times tables using TT Rockstars - please encourage your child to do the 'Soundcheck' section over the half term as much as possible. It was lovely to meet you all at Parent's Evening this week and I hope that you all have a fantastic half term .
