Since half term, we have been unbelievably busy, inside and outside of the classroom, as we embrace our final few weeks together. The children have really revelled in our extra curricular activities. Foremost in our schedule, rehearsing for our production is gathering pace.
In English, we have published our non-chronological report on Antarctica and written our letter of application to join Shackleton's expedition aboard the Endurance. This week we are drafting our last piece of creative writing: a horror narrative based on the short film 'Alma'. This has generated a plethora of gruesome ideas. For Maths, we have been focusing on financial education for our Enterprise project - totting up expenditure and forecasting sales! On the Science front, the children had a fabulous morning pond dipping and we've also been crossing over into the human anatomy with our PSHE lessons on puberty and pregnancy. Our Geography has included a very informative field trip to Ashtead Common to investigate visitor impact, where the children set up a linear transect and used quadrats for the first time. They are now confident interviewers of the general public, too! To date, we have had successful two transition events to prepare the children for September: an introduction to the Leatherhead Youth Project and a theatre production entitled 'The Forest In Between'. Amongst everything else going on, we've also had an author visit and a singing workshop.
We would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who supported our cake sale to raise money for the production sound equipment, to our loyal customers who supported our Enterprise event and to those helping the children to learn their lines and/ or supplying props for our fast-approaching production. Lastly, whilst we said a fond farewell to Miss Clemson, as she starts her maternity leave, we will be keeping in close touch with her.
Thank you for your continued support.
With best wishes,
Ms MacFarlane, Ms Clemson and Mrs Povey
