The Summer Term is now flying by and we only have another 4 weeks of Year 4 left. We have been busy as usual over the past two weeks. The children completed the official MTC last week and I was really proud of the way they all handled this. There was no stress, everyone put their best effort in and I am sure they will all do well. Thank you for your support across the whole year with times tables - it is so important for the children to be fluent and you have done a brilliant job of keeping them motivated at home.
Our latest English writing has been an explanation text about one of the animals from our text, The Explorer. As this is set in the Amazon Rainforest, we have had great fun researching and planning this piece of work. The children have just finished writing these up and they look amazing. We are continuing to read The Explorer and we are all completely captivated by the adventures so far.
In Maths, we have completed our Position and Movement topic, where we learned about coordinates on a grid and how to translate shapes. We have also completed our short topic on Roman Numerals. The rest of this term is consolidation of topics that we have already covered.
In Science, we continue with Animals and their Habitats and have created Fact Files for an animal, as well as learning all about animal adaptations and habitats. This has tied in perfectly with our trip to the Living Rainforest last week, where we had a talk about the amazing adaptation that plants and animals have made to survive in these environments. Our new Geography topic this half term is Rainforests and we were able to combine our Geography learning with our Science (and even our English, from reading The Explorer) to make this trip really relevant and exciting. We had a lovely (very hot) day in the Living Rainforest and were able to see some of the animals and plants we have read about in real life. (See pictures below.)
In RE, we are learning about Islam, and this half term focus on the importance of pilgrimage to Muslims. Our PSHE lessons this half term cover the topic of 'Changing Me' which includes lessons on puberty.
On Monday, the whole school celebrated Amazing People from History and were invited to dress up as a historical character. We had some fantastic costumes in Year 4. Thank you for your support with this. (Photo below.)
Have a lovely weekend!
As stated above, we have completed the MTC! Well done everyone and well done parents for all of your support throughout the year.
Homework for this term continues to be Century for Maths each week and a topic homework. Please ensure that the Century homework is completed as this supports the learning we have done in class. For our new topic homework children have a choice of 3 options. The homework assignment is on Google Classroom and says:
For your homework this half term, please choose one of the following
Invent a new rainforest creature with unique adaptations for its habitat. Draw or create a model of the animal and write a description, including its appearance, habitat, diet and predators.
Rainforest Products: Investigate products sourced from the rainforest, their uses, and their impact on the environment. Present your findings as Google Slides of a Google Vid (video).
Write a poem about the rainforest, capturing its beauty, diversity or the threats it faces. You may also wish to illustrate your poem. Alternatively, you may wish to record your performance of your poem on Google Vids.
Your homework is due in on Friday 11th July. Digital homework should be uploaded to the GC assignment.
