In English, year 4 have looked at the features of adverts and persuasive devices, building up to their amazing writing in which they created adverts for a hero to defeat Grendel.
In Maths, year 4 concluded their learning on graphs and have begun their new topic, Fractions. So far, they have counted in hundredths and begun looking at mixed numbers.
In English, year 5 have researched facts about the narwhal, in preparation for writing a non-chronological report about this fascinating arctic mammal. They have looked at examples of non-chronological reports, and discussed the purpose and audience of their writing. In their grammar lesson, they have recapped their knowledge of fronted adverbials.
In Maths, year 5 have learnt how to add fractions with different denominators, using online manipulatives as well as pictorial methods.
In Year 4/5, we have been learning how to filter water in Science, we have compared Sparta and Athens in History and we have learned about the history of the computer in Computing.
Next week in English, year 4 will be continuing with the story of Beowulf. They will further immerse themselves in the text before planning their own chapter of the narrative.
In Maths, year 4 will be continuing with fractions, understanding how to find equivalent fractions and knowing how to simplify.
Next week in English, year 5 will write and edit their non-chronological reports about the narwhal. We will also be celebrating National Storytelling Week on Thursday by participating in a live lesson on Zoom with author and poet, Steven Camden, who will tell us all about his approach to creating a story. Afterwards, we will be creating our own imaginary characters and writing a short character profile.
In Maths, year 5 will be learning how to subtract fractions and how to multiply whole numbers by proper fractions.
Next week, Year 4 and 5 will be debating whether there was a democracy in Athens during Ancient Greece, we will be making and observing solutions in science and in Art we will start to create a piece of art based on cityscapes or landscapes.
