This week's learning...

This week in English, Year 4 have continued to produce work around the text, 'Escape from Pompeii'. We have learned about the features of formal letters and written our own letters advising the citizens of Pompeii to evacuate the city before Vesuvius erupts. In Maths, we began to look at addition and used manipulatives to help us understand addition using the column method.

In Year 5, we have been busy writing our newspaper reports about the mysterious disappearance of Salim from The London Eye.  In Maths, we have consolidated our knowledge of place value and numbers to 1,000,000.  We have begun looking at addition  within 1,000,000 using place value counters and number lines.

We had lots of fun investigating circuits in Science this week and thoroughly enjoyed creating a scene in Art using chalk and charcoal. In History, we continued our Romans topic, learning about Hadrian's Wall.

Upcoming learning...

Next week in English, Year 4 will be planning and writing an alternative ending to our story. In Maths, we will continue to look at addition using manipulatives and the column method.

Next week in Year 5, we will start collecting adventurous vocabulary for a setting description of the South Bank and consider how our descriptions could be improved with alliteration and onomatopoeia.  In Maths, we will be learning how to use the column method for addition and subtraction within 1,000,000.

Both Years 4 and 5 will be celebrating National Poetry Day on Thursday 5th October.

In Science, we will look at conductors and insulators and in History, we will be celebrating Black History Month, learning about Septimius Severus - an African Roman emperor.
