What another great week we have had in year 6.
In English, we have carried on analysing the text 'Holes'. The children have been busy writing newspapers and dairy entries. When writing there newspaper articles, the children enjoyed including direct and reported speech on to their writing make their reports sound more believable. In their diary entries, the children have worked really hard with including informality within their writing whilst still doing a level of conscious control. Take a look at the brilliant example below.
Maths started the week with short division. They clearly are masters at this topic! The year 6 children are grappling a new method when solving long division questions. They are up for the challenge and their perseverance is clearly inspiring.
In humanities, we have continued looking at coastlines for our 'Our Changing Landscapes' topic. They really enjoyed looking at the different types of coastal features including a bay, a headland, an arch and a spit.
As well as all of the exciting learning in class, some of the Year 5 children were lucky enough to attend a 'Show Racism the Red Card' event at Sutton United. This was a fantastic learning point about equality and diversity in sport. On Tuesday 4th October we had a visit from the Dogs Trust and each class had a workshop discussing how the children could remain safe around dogs. There were fantastic conversations about the different ways we can keep dogs and ourselves safe when we are out in public. We also took part in the Be Internet Legends assembly to learn all about the ways we can stay safe online. Please encourage your child to use Doodle everyday for about 10 minutes so their Maths and English skills improve as they have fun collecting stars. Little and often goes a long way.
