Year 4 had a very busy fortnight and have enjoyed a wide range of activities.
In English, we have been building on our knowledge of the book Escape from Pompeii and have written persuasive letters to persuade government officials to find ways to predict further volcanic eruptions and have written an alternative ending for the story. In Reading, we have read extracts from Reign of the Sea Dragons and The Tale of Custard the Dragon and have used them to explore the writer's use of language and vocabulary.
In Maths, we have built onto our previous knowledge of addition to add two 4 digit numbers together. We have gradually increased the number of places we have been renaming and have been using and applying mental strategies to help increase our speed.
Our Humanities focus is The Romans and we have explored the life of Queen Boudicca and her revolt against the Roman invaders. We also saw how different people would have differing opinions of her, the Celts saw her as a heroine but the Romans saw her as a dangerous revolutionary.
In Science, we have explored how to make a circuit using a cell, bulb and wires and investigated various circuit diagrams to see if they would work. The following week, we applied our knowledge of electrical circuits to find out if everyday object were electrical conductor or electrical insulators.
During our Art lesson, we used charcoal and chalk to create Roman columns and made shades and tones of red, orange and yellow to create a mosaic of LEO the Trust's emblem.
On Tuesday 4th October we had a visit from the Dogs Trust and each class had a workshop discussing how the children could remain safe around dogs. We had lots of good ideas about how and if to approach dogs . We also participated in the Internet Legends live lesson which helped us to think about how to safe online.
We are practising our Times Tables using Times Tables Rockstars and the Sound check feature. Please practice this at home as well as the children need to have rapid recall of all their Times Tables by the end of Year 4.
