Year 2 have had two very busy weeks of learning.
In Maths we have finished our first MNP! chapter of Number and Place Value. We are learning to count confidently in 2s, 5s and 10s and we have had a go at counting in 3s. We are now working on the next chapter of Addition and Subtraction so the number bonds to 10 and 20 will come in handy. Please help your child learn all the number bonds so they can calculate quickly and begin to apply their known facts to solve word problems.
In English we have been reading the story 'The Day The Crayons Quit'. We have explored the story through role play and we have written a letter back to the crayons on behalf of Duncan to apologise for making them feel sad.
In Science we carried out an investigation to see how some items change when heated and we then discovered what happened when they cooled off.
In Humanities we have continued learning about the continents of the world and this fortnight we have explored Africa and Europe. We have then made our own fact files to showcase each continent. We have also used Google Earth to locate countries and compare them to one another. It has been very exciting to learn about the longest river in Africa, the highest mountain in Europe and the coldest place on Earth. We can't wait to learn more!
It is very nice to see so many Year 2 children playing Times Tables Rockstars and these are our winners. TTRS is a fun way of learning the times tables whilst competing with other children in their year group.
Please encourage your child to use Doodle everyday for about 10 minutes so their Maths and English skills improve as they have fun collecting stars. Little and often goes a long way. Doodle homework is set on Thursdays and should be completed by Monday. Your child should be able to see their two pieces of homework as they log in to DoodleMaths and DoodleEnglish and click on the red button 'Extra'. Please remember to log onto the BigCat website for your child to read the books that have been assigned to them.
