What a great couple of weeks Year 3 have had!
We have been studying the human body this week in our science lessons and all children have shown an inquisitive mindset when discussing the body. We have focused on the skeleton, what joints are and what cartilage is. It was quite a challenge to remember what each bone is called but we did focus on a few of the main bones (skull, rib cage, pelvis and spine) and the purposes of these 3 components. To help us, we used an online game to solve where different bones go in the body.
In maths this week, we have been really challenging our understanding of how to add larger numbers using the column method. For this, we have had to practise how to rename when there have been extra tens or ones. This was a little bit confusing at first but everyone has had a great mindset when working on this.
We have continued to read our class text 'Akimbo's Adventures'. We have used our creative minds to write a description of the setting within the book. There were some FANTASTIC descriptions of the setting. To develop further, we have now stepped into the shoes of the main character Akimbo and are writing a diary entry of his day. In order to do this, we have really thought about the feelings and emotions Akimbo would have felt and using more of a 'show don't tell' approach to the writing (for example: I felt scared --> my body shook in terror). We can't wait to read the final diary entries!
On Tuesday 4th October we had a visit from the Dogs Trust and each class had a workshop discussing how the children could remain safe around dogs. We had lots of good ideas about how and if to approach dogs . We also participated in the Internet Legends live lesson which helped us to think about how to safe online.
PLEASE NOTE:
When recording in your child's reading diary, we are only counting a maximum of 2 reads per day. If your child wants to read more that's fine, but in regards to the reading awards, it will only be 2 reads a day. Please ensure reading diaries come to school daily as many children are read with and we can add these reads to the diary.
For forest school, all children must have a separate pair of schools for the lesson. As weather conditions are getting worse/wetter, all children must have a separate pair of shoes to change into after. If they do not have a separate pair of shoes, they might not able to take part.
